SCISSORS CARE

For optimum performance, always maintain proper blade tension. For optimum blade tension, follow these steps: (Recommended once a week).

  • Step 1: Keep the scissors level by holding it by the lower loop hole.
  • Step 2: Lift the upper loop hole, thus spreading the blades.
  • Step 3: Release the upper loop hole, allowing the upper blade to close at a natural fall.

If blades close all the way easily, it means the screw tension is too loose. Gently tighten the main screw and repeat steps 1, 2, and 3. Proper screw tension is achieved when blades close slowly but not all the way.

DO’S AND DON’TS:

DO’s:

  • DO cautiously remove the excess of hair and water after every haircut.
  • DO clean scissors thoroughly and lubricate it once a month using the Japanese oil pen. This ensures a frictionless and smooth movement. Finish by wiping scissors with the leather strip included in your Hikoshirō Sadamune case.
  • DO have your shears inspected and sharpened every 400 to 600 cuts by an authorized Hikoshirō Sadamune specialist in order to maintain optimum performance. Optimum sharpness may last longer or less, depending on how you care for the shears.
  • DO shampoo client’s hair before every haircut. If you regularly cut unwashed hair, your scissors may become blunt or dull prematurely.
  • DO protect and store your scissors in an enclosed case if you are near the ocean. This will avoid corrosion of micro-bearings.
  • DO make a habit to take care of your scissors regularly, always following these steps. It is extremely important to make sure your scissors are kept clean, dry, and oiled.

DON’TS:

  • DON’T ever submerge scissors in water or QUATS solution. Use spray disinfectant instead.
  • DON’T ever throw scissors against other scissors or any hard surfaces.
  • DON’T ever store scissors in contact with metal or other scissors, as this disrupts or alters the steel’s vibration negatively impacting performance.
  • DON’T leave hair or water between the blades for long periods of time.
  • DON’T allow dirt build up to accumulate in between the blades.
  • DON’T cut paper or any material other than hair with your Hikoshirō Sadamune.
